Mazda has been quietly moving upmarket for a decade — the CX-90 and CX-70 list above $50,000, the interiors rival entry-luxury brands, and the CX-90 PHEV and CX-70 PHEV are Mazda's first plug-in hybrid powertrains in the U.S. market. That premium trajectory comes with service needs the dealer service departments are still ramping up on, and wait times that send owners looking for a capable independent.
Green's Garage has been Miami's diagnostic-first independent shop since 1957, and Mazda is one of our specialty brands. We run Mazda's factory diagnostic platform — the same tool the dealer uses — and we're ASE Master Certified and ASE L3 Hybrid/EV Specialist certified for the CX-90 PHEV and CX-70 PHEV high-voltage systems, a capability most independent Miami shops don't have. We diagnose first, document our findings in writing, then quote the repair — and you decide what to authorize. Same-week appointments. 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty. Call (305) 444-8881.

You're in the right place if you're dealing with:
- Rising oil level or fuel smell in the oil on a Skyactiv-G turbo (the oil dilution pattern)
- A ticking or tapping noise on a 2018+ Skyactiv-G 2.5L (cylinder deactivation lifter concern)
- An i-Activ AWD warning or driveline concern
- i-Activsense warnings after a windshield replacement or front-end work (camera/radar calibration)
- A CX-90 PHEV or CX-70 PHEV needing hybrid system service the dealer is backed up on
- A dealer estimate you want a second opinion on before authorizing
- A used Mazda — particularly a used CX-90 PHEV coming off lease — you want inspected before buying
If any of this describes your situation, call (305) 444-8881 or schedule a diagnostic online.
Mazda Skyactiv-G Oil Dilution Diagnosis Miami
The Skyactiv-G 2.5L Turbo (CX-5, CX-9, CX-50, Mazda6 Turbo, Mazda3 2.5T) and some naturally-aspirated Skyactiv-G engines can experience fuel dilution of the engine oil — fuel washing past the rings into the crankcase, raising the oil level and thinning the oil's protective film. Short trips, cold operation, and stop-and-go driving accelerate it. The symptom owners notice is a rising oil level on the dipstick or a fuel smell in the oil.
We diagnose oil dilution by checking oil level trend, oil condition, and fuel-in-oil indicators, plus scanning for any related fault codes and reviewing the vehicle's operating pattern. The fix depends on severity and root cause — sometimes it's a driving-pattern and oil-change-interval adjustment, sometimes it points to an injector or cold-start enrichment issue requiring deeper diagnosis. We don't quote a major repair without confirming the actual cause.
Mazda Cylinder Deactivation Lifter Diagnosis Miami
2018+ Skyactiv-G 2.5L engines use cylinder deactivation to improve fuel economy, deactivating two cylinders under light load. The system uses special switching lifters, and on some engines these lifters can wear or stick, producing a ticking or tapping noise and in some cases a misfire or rough running. The pattern is specific enough that a Mazda specialist recognizes it where a general shop might misdiagnose it as a generic valvetrain noise.
We diagnose cylinder deactivation concerns with the Mazda factory platform (reading the deactivation system command and status) plus mechanical inspection. We confirm the actual fault before quoting — a deactivation lifter issue is a different repair from a general valvetrain or timing concern.
Mazda i-Activ AWD Service Miami
Mazda's i-Activ all-wheel-drive system predicts traction needs and distributes torque proactively. Service includes the AWD coupling fluid, driveline inspection, and diagnosis of any AWD warnings or driveline noise. We service the i-Activ system to factory specification with the correct fluids — the right fluid matters on these systems the same way it does on Subaru's AWD.
Mazda i-Activsense Calibration Miami
i-Activsense is Mazda's driver-assist suite — adaptive cruise, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep, blind-spot monitoring — driven by a forward camera and radar. Any time the windshield is replaced, the camera or radar is disturbed, or front-end/bumper work is performed, i-Activsense requires recalibration. An uncalibrated system can misjudge distances, which is a safety concern. We perform i-Activsense calibration prep with the Mazda factory platform.
Mazda CX-90 PHEV & CX-70 PHEV Service Miami
The CX-90 PHEV and CX-70 PHEV are Mazda's first plug-in hybrid powertrains in the U.S. — a 2.5L Skyactiv-G engine paired with a 100kW electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery, an architecture unique among PHEVs in this class. Because these are new platforms, Mazda dealer service departments are still ramping up PHEV expertise, and PHEV service appointments can run 2-4 weeks at the dealer.
We service the CX-90 PHEV and CX-70 PHEV high-voltage systems with the Mazda factory diagnostic platform, ASE L3 Hybrid/EV Specialist certification, and Class 0 high-voltage safety equipment — a combination most independent Miami shops don't have. High-voltage battery diagnostics, electric motor and inverter faults, DC-to-DC converter issues, charging system faults, and the hybrid control coordination between the Skyactiv-G engine and the electric drive are all in scope.
This is the genuine specialty wedge in Mazda service: as Mazda's PHEV installed base grows and these vehicles come off lease into the used market, the customer segment that needs capable, faster-than-dealer PHEV service grows with it.

Used Mazda Pre-Purchase Inspection Miami — Including CX-90 PHEV
Used CX-90 PHEVs are starting to come off lease and onto the resale market, and a used PHEV is a higher-stakes purchase than a conventional used car — the high-voltage battery's state of health is a major value factor that isn't visible on a test drive.
Our used Mazda pre-purchase inspection includes a full Mazda factory platform scan, Skyactiv engine compression and oil-dilution check, i-Activ AWD inspection, and — on PHEV models — high-voltage battery state-of-health analysis that tells you how much battery capacity remains. You get a written report you can use to renegotiate the price or walk away. For a used CX-90 PHEV, the battery state-of-health alone can swing the fair purchase price by thousands.

Mazda FAQ
My Mazda's oil level is going up, not down. What's happening? That's the oil dilution pattern — fuel passing into the crankcase and raising the oil level, most common on Skyactiv-G turbo engines with a lot of short-trip and stop-and-go driving. We diagnose the severity and root cause; sometimes it's a driving-pattern and service-interval adjustment, sometimes it points to an injector or cold-start issue requiring deeper diagnosis.
My 2019 CX-5 has a ticking noise. Is it serious? Could be the cylinder deactivation lifter pattern on the 2.5L Skyactiv-G. We diagnose with the Mazda factory platform plus mechanical inspection to confirm whether it's the deactivation system or something else before quoting.
Do you work on the CX-90 PHEV? Yes. We're ASE L3 Hybrid/EV Specialist certified with Class 0 high-voltage equipment and Mazda factory platform access — the combination required for CX-90 PHEV and CX-70 PHEV service. Most independent Miami shops can't service these. We're often faster than the dealer, who can be backed up 2-4 weeks on PHEV appointments.
Can you inspect a used CX-90 PHEV before I buy it? Yes — and we'd strongly recommend it. The high-voltage battery's state of health is a major value factor that isn't visible on a test drive. Our used PHEV inspection includes battery state-of-health analysis that can swing the fair purchase price by thousands.
Will servicing my Mazda at an independent shop void my warranty? No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, independent shops can service your vehicle without voiding the factory warranty, as long as we use equivalent parts and procedures.
Habla Español? Sí. Tenemos personal que habla español caribeño nativo.
