Subaru owners are a particular kind of driver — they keep their cars a long time, they drive them hard, and they care about doing right by them. The Boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel-drive that make a Subaru a Subaru also come with specific, well-documented service needs: head gaskets on the older EJ-series engines, oil consumption on the 2011-2018 FB25 engines, CVT fluid that has to be the right Subaru-specific formula, and EyeSight calibration that requires the factory diagnostic tool. Generic shops miss these patterns. Subaru specialists know them cold.
Green's Garage has been Miami's diagnostic-first independent shop since 1957, and we run Subaru Select Monitor (SSM-IV) — Subaru's factory diagnostic platform, the same tool the dealer uses — plus Toyota Techstream for the Toyota-derived hybrid systems in the Crosstrek Hybrid and Solterra. We're ASE Master Certified and ASE L3 Hybrid/EV Specialist certified, which matters more for Subaru every year as the lineup electrifies. We diagnose first, document our findings in writing, then quote the repair — and you decide what to authorize. Same-week appointments. 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty. Call (305) 444-8881.

You're in the right place if you're dealing with:
- Burning oil between changes — adding a quart every 1,000-2,000 miles on a 2011-2018 Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or Impreza (the FB25 oil consumption pattern, with an extended warranty class)
- Coolant loss, overheating, or oil-coolant mixing on an older Outback, Forester, or Legacy (the classic EJ25 head gasket failure)
- CVT shuddering, hesitation, or a CVT warning light — often a fluid service issue, sometimes more
- EyeSight warnings after a windshield replacement or front-end work (camera calibration required)
- A dealer estimate you want a second opinion on before authorizing
- A check engine light on any Subaru platform
- A used Subaru you're considering and want inspected first — particularly to check for FB25 oil consumption or EJ25 head gasket signs
- A Crosstrek Hybrid, Forester Hybrid, or Solterra EV needing hybrid/EV system service
If any of this describes your situation, call (305) 444-8881 or schedule a diagnostic online.
Subaru FB25 Oil Consumption Diagnosis & Repair Miami
If you own a 2011-2018 Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or Impreza with the FB25 engine and you're adding oil between changes, you're experiencing one of the most documented issues in recent Subaru history. The FB25 oil consumption problem became significant enough that Subaru issued an extended warranty on affected vehicles and developed a formal oil consumption test protocol.
What's happening: the piston ring design on affected FB25 engines allows oil to pass into the combustion chamber and burn, consuming oil at a rate that can exceed a quart every 1,000-1,200 miles in severe cases. Left unaddressed, low oil level risks engine damage.
How we diagnose it: we run a structured oil consumption test — documented oil level at a known starting point, controlled mileage interval, re-measured consumption — to quantify exactly how much oil the engine is using. This documentation is what supports an extended warranty claim if your vehicle qualifies, and what tells us whether the consumption is within Subaru's acceptable range or warrants the short-block/piston-ring repair.
The repair, when warranted, involves the updated piston rings and related components. We perform FB25 oil consumption repairs and document the work to Subaru specification.
This is the kind of brand-specific pattern that separates a Subaru specialist from a general shop. A general shop sees "burning oil" and might quote a valve job or worse; a Subaru specialist recognizes the FB25 pattern, runs the proper consumption test, and knows the extended warranty pathway.
Subaru EJ25 Head Gasket Replacement Miami
The EJ25 head gasket failure on 2003-2010 Outback, Forester, Legacy, and Baja is the single most famous Subaru repair — and one we perform routinely. The EJ-series Boxer engine's head gasket design is prone to external coolant leaks and, in some cases, internal coolant-to-oil or coolant-to-combustion failures.
Symptoms we diagnose: coolant loss with no obvious external leak, overheating, sweet coolant smell, oil-coolant mixing (milky oil or oil in the coolant), or persistent low coolant level. We confirm head gasket failure via combustion gas testing of the coolant and chemical block testing before quoting the repair — we don't assume head gasket on every aging Subaru with a coolant issue, because sometimes it's a simpler radiator, hose, or thermostat problem that costs a fraction as much.
The repair, when confirmed, involves replacing the head gaskets with the updated multi-layer steel design, resurfacing the heads if needed, and replacing related components (timing belt, water pump, and seals while access is open, since the labor to reach them is already invested). Done properly, the repair lasts the life of the engine.
Subaru Lineartronic CVT Service Miami
Most modern Subarus use the Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). It's a durable transmission when maintained correctly — and prone to premature wear when serviced with the wrong fluid. Subaru's CVT requires a specific high-torque CVT fluid; generic CVT fluid causes accelerated wear and can shorten transmission life significantly. This is one of the most common ways general shops inadvertently damage Subaru transmissions.
We service the Lineartronic CVT with OEM Subaru High Torque CVT fluid to factory specification. Subaru's "lifetime fluid" claim is optimistic in Miami's heat and stop-and-go traffic — periodic CVT fluid service extends transmission life and is far cheaper than a CVT replacement. We diagnose CVT concerns (shudder, hesitation, warning lights) with SSM-IV to determine whether the issue is fluid-related, a valve body concern, or something requiring deeper service, before quoting.
Subaru Timing Belt Service Miami
Pre-2013 Subarus with the EJ-series engine use a timing belt with a replacement interval (typically 105,000 miles). The EJ-series is an interference engine — if the timing belt fails, valves and pistons collide and the engine is destroyed. Preventive timing belt replacement is far cheaper than the engine repair that follows a belt failure.
Our EJ timing belt service includes the belt, tensioner, idler pulleys, water pump (replaced with the belt since access is identical), and inspection of the cam and crank seals (replaced if any seepage, since access is open). Newer FB-series engines use a timing chain designed to last the life of the engine and don't require scheduled belt replacement.
Subaru Boxer Engine & Symmetrical AWD Service Miami
The horizontally-opposed Boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel-drive are what define a Subaru. We service the full range of Boxer-specific work: valve cover gaskets (a common Boxer leak point, where oil drips onto the exhaust and burns), spark plug service (Boxer plug access is different from inline engines), and the symmetrical AWD system including differential service and the AWD coupling diagnostics. Coastal Miami Subarus also see accelerated corrosion on the alternator-to-battery cabling and undercarriage components — we treat these climate-specific patterns proactively.
Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, Forester Hybrid & Solterra EV Service Miami
Subaru is electrifying, and that's where our ASE L3 Hybrid/EV Specialist certification becomes a meaningful differentiator. The Crosstrek Hybrid (a plug-in hybrid using a Toyota-derived hybrid system), the Forester Hybrid, and the Solterra EV (Subaru's all-electric SUV, sharing a platform with the Toyota bZ4X) all require high-voltage system capability that most independent Subaru-servicing shops in Miami don't advertise.
We service these with SSM-IV plus Toyota Techstream (for the Toyota-derived hybrid hardware) and the ASE L3 certification, Class 0 high-voltage equipment, and isolation testing required for safe high-voltage work. As Subaru's lineup continues to electrify through the decade, this capability becomes increasingly central to being Miami's Subaru specialist.

Subaru FAQ
My Subaru is burning oil. Is this the known problem? If it's a 2011-2018 Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or Impreza with the FB25 engine, very possibly — this is the documented FB25 oil consumption pattern that has an extended warranty class. We run Subaru's structured oil consumption test to quantify exactly how much oil the engine is using, which both tells us whether repair is warranted and supports an extended warranty claim if your vehicle qualifies.
Do you do Subaru head gaskets? Yes — EJ25 head gasket replacement on 2003-2010 Outback, Forester, Legacy, and Baja is one of the most common repairs we perform. We confirm head gasket failure with combustion gas and block testing before quoting, because sometimes a coolant issue is a simpler radiator or thermostat problem that costs far less.
Does my Subaru CVT need special fluid? Yes — and this matters. Subaru's Lineartronic CVT requires a specific high-torque CVT fluid. Generic CVT fluid causes accelerated wear and can shorten transmission life. We always use the correct OEM Subaru CVT fluid.
My EyeSight warning came on after a windshield replacement. Can you fix it? Yes. EyeSight cameras require recalibration with the factory tool any time the windshield is replaced or the cameras are disturbed. We perform EyeSight calibration with SSM-IV.
Do you work on the Solterra EV and Crosstrek Hybrid? Yes. We're ASE L3 Hybrid/EV Specialist certified with the Class 0 high-voltage equipment and SSM-IV plus Toyota Techstream access these vehicles require. Most independent Subaru-servicing shops in Miami don't carry this capability.
Will servicing my Subaru at an independent shop void my warranty? No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, independent shops can service your vehicle without voiding the factory warranty, as long as we use equivalent parts and procedures. We document everything to manufacturer specification.
